Commercial simulation and virtual reality work for ACT UK

The Client

ACT UK operate pioneering simulation training courses using authentic environments, virtual reality and highly skilled actors to provide truly realistic training scenarios.

The Challenge

ACT UK have commissioned Makemedia to provide a construction simulator with 10 different virtual reality environments for their pioneering simulation training centre. The objectives are:

• To provide software and hardware solutions for a 16-metre wide panoramic screen that will allow students to see every aspect of two building projects on any given day of their year-long construction
• To provide work and training scenarios for the virtual reality construction sites
• To render graphics to the highest level of detail so that every nut and bolt is visible

The Solution

We are working from tens of thousands of photographs from two real-life building projects to provide authentic simulation and virtual reality environments.

Using our architectural experience and talented graphic art team we've been able to render the simulations so that they are completely life-like in every detail.

The six month long project is being project managed at every stage down to the delivery of the database, run time engine and necessary hardware to run the simulation successfully.

The Results

Although the project is still underway ACT UK have already had exceptional feedback from project stakeholders and they intend to expand the use of virtual reality throughout their training environments. They are also working up proposals for similar training simulations for other industries.
