Patrick,

Thanks for doing the lions share of the running around and leading the push from the front to get this all off the ground. None of it would have been possible without your dedication.

@Richard: Dream of combining a strong userbase with MVC3/Razor/NHibernate, the best architecture ever build and an ultra healthy open source project? It's here (although in alpha) - Umbraco 5: http://umbraco.com/umbraco-5-status

From my perspective as a programmer I want to be able to deliver the website the client wants on time and under budget, on top of that I want to be able to add value in the future by enhancing the website.

Wordpress gives me that through plugins, however from bitter experience too many plugins can bring Wordpress to a crawl, it would still be my first choice for a design lead marketing site with basic functionality.

Orchard gives me a strong foundation to build moderatly complex websites with specific requirements above and beyond what I can build with Wordpress with the added advantage of incorporating up to date best of breed technologiers such as MVC, Razor and NHibernate.

Umbraco has a strong userbase, and I would absolutely consider using it although if I have to learn something from scratch then I would prefer to start from something I know and love (MVC/Razor/NHibernate) than take a step into the past to use Webforms.

General consensus being:
Wordpress: quicker and easier for us to develop with (largely due having in depth knowledge of it already) with a large support network of users and developers out there.
Orchard: (realtively) new kid on the block - good for more complex, bespoke projects as offers more flexibility but is a more complex platform itself.
Umbraco: somewhere in the middle! I'd be particularly interested to hear about what people using Umbraco think of it as a platform?

Great blog post guys. It's this kind of process and planning that makes you so great to deal with.

We've had loads of good feedback on the calendar and we look forward to working on tweaks and additional functionality with you soon.
