“I’m Richard one of the .NET Developers at Makemedia, I write the code that makes our clients websites tick. I enjoy designing and implementing the software, but most of all seeing it used all round the world.”

Where did you come from?

I grew up near Gatwick, In 2000 I moved to Brighton to study Computer Science at Brighton University. Since graduating I have been working in the education sector, providing technical support and creating bespoke software solutions. Makemedia took me on in July 2010 as a .NET Developer.

What can you do?

I picked up programming at an early age on a ZX Spectrum then migrated from BASIC to Visual Basic. Though college I picked up TurboPascal and Delphi. University gave me the chance to work with Ada and Java, and I also had the time to pick up some C, PHP, SQL, HTML and CSS.

C# and .NET are my languages of choice now; .NET provides the libraries I need to create the applications clients and end users want. I have never been shy about learning other ways to do what I want to do.

What do you do?

My role at Makemedia is to design and implement software for our clients; predominantly in .NET, SQL, HTML and JavaScript. At all points in the software development lifecycle I am on the lookout for bugs and errors, one of the most rewarding parts of my jobs is finding and stomping bugs that would otherwise be stopping people getting on with their work.

What do you like?

My interest in programming isn’t limited to working hours; at home I am the lead developer on the EVEMon project. Along with my lovely wife I am also a 6 year veteran of the MMORPG EVE Online.

I play the acoustic guitar and electric bass fairly badly, never been in a band just enjoy picking out a groove in the evenings.
