MakemediaOur Team
The Makemedia team is comprised of highly talented individuals, who work effectively as a team for the benefit of our clients. As an agency we value talent and communication very highly as we believe that these traits are inherent, where as skills can be learnt.
Edd Temple-Smithson - Front End Developer
“My name’s Edd, I’m a developer at Makemedia – I am primarily responsible for front end development. I also drink an unholy amount of tea!”
Where did you come from?
I moved to Brighton in 1986, aged two weeks, and quickly adapted to bourgeois western domesticity. After graduating from the University of Sussex in 2008 with a degree in Computer Science, I undertook a number of temporary jobs, part-time positions and internships, until mid 2009 when I took part in the Sussex Internship programme.
Following my placement at Makemedia I was offered a Job as a Junior developer. After yet again being inexplicably overlooked for a wildcard into The Open, I decided to take the job.
What can you do?
During my time at university I picked up a myriad of theoretical development skills, although I was never entirely sure which route I would follow subsequently. When I joined Makemedia, the nature of a smaller agency meant I had the opportunity to experience the day to day realities of a lot of roles, which enabled me to get a feel for which areas of development I was most passionate about. The upshot is that I still dabble in most facets of web development, but primarily XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, .NET and C#. If I shout at an MS SQL database for long enough it also, sometimes, does what I want. Recently as the company has grown my role at Makemedia has evolved into a heavier focus on front end development.
What do you do?
I still commonly fill in the gaps between front and back end, but my primary focus is on front end technologies. For most projects I am responsible for the HTML, CSS and Javascript - so it's probably my fault if youre website doesn't work in Internet Explorer... Well actually it's Microsoft's fault, but thats a wider issue.
I like to get involved in projects as early as possible and i frequently have a hand in mapping out site architecture and user flow.
For other smaller projects I undertake the entire production. I’m also rapidly broadening my PHP horizons, as I integrate and customise our Wordpress powered blogs into our .NET sites. We also provide managed services to our clients; I take responsibility for the development side of this service, as well as writing the site audits and SEO analysis.
I am also curator of slanderous Photoshop images.
What do you like?
Cups of tea, misanthropy, spurs, golf, f1, daniel kitson, south park, my xbox, ben folds, the bugle, sarcasm, my guitar, the internet.
